My qualifications and experience.
I trained in London for five years at The Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE), completing a four year Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2009. The CCPE is based in Paddington, and is one of the largest and most renowned Transpersonal training institutes in the United Kingdom. The diploma I attained there is one of few in the country which is recognised by both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and I am a Senior Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also a Registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist on the BACP Register - the first psychological therapists' register to be accredited under a scheme set up by the Department of Health and administered by an independent body, accountable to Parliament.
Prior to my diploma I completed a one-year foundation course in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2005 also at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education, and in addition to this I hold a BA Honours degree from Exeter University. |
I have over seventeen years experience of working with clients in both long and short-term settings, some of which I acquired through my work as a counsellor at Ealing Abbey Counselling Service in West London and at the now defunct Northampton Counselling Service, and I have also completed a 100 hour observational placement on a forensic psychiatric ward at St Andrew's Hospital, Northampton. In addition I have several years experience of telephone counselling work for a variety of organisations, have facilitated psychotherapy groups, and have delivered presentations on various therapy related themes including for the Northants Fire And Rescue Service and Anglia Ruskin University.
I am a strong believer in the benefits of personal therapy for practicing therapists, and as a pre-requisite to completing my diploma I undertook six years of weekly psychotherapy with an Integrative Psychotherapist, and since then have also undergone nine years of weekly therapy with a Jungian analyst. This has given me a developed awareness of the experience of being a client in therapy, and first-hand knowledge of the value of therapeutic work. In addition I have had a number of different supervisors from a range of approaches in both group and individual settings as I have furthered my skills.
I have an interest in writing and have had psychotherapy related articles published in various settings including the online journal Contemporary Psychotherapy, Britain's biggest yoga magazine Om Yoga & Lifestyle, and the psychotherapy magazine of the Cambridge Jungian Circle. I have previously been independently contracted by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy to be a fictional Case-Study Writer for their internal examination paperwork, and post regular updates to my private practice's Facebook page regarding my therapy-related activities outside of the counselling setting. |
Prior to completing my course, I worked in the charity sector for a number of years for a variety of different organisations and I have been employed post-qualification as the lead psychotherapist for a large medical company in Northamptonshire, as a counsellor and psychotherapist for university students in Cambridge, and have been contracted to provide long-term psychotherapy by Southwark Borough Council's Social Services team, and also the Northamptonshire Children's Trust. I am currently an affiliate EAP Counsellor for AXA-PPP Healthcare, Lifeworks, Moving Minds, and CiC, and a registered counsellor for the Diocese of Peterborough, in addition to frequently taking on individual counselling referrals from organisations in the public, private and charity sectors, as well as working as a therapist for counselling and psychotherapy students.
